NOTES ON RULES OF GOLF FOR MATCHPLAY


  1. PLAYING OUTSIDE TEEING GROUND (Rule 11-4)
    • Opponent may recall stroke, at his option, if done immediately. No penalty, ball is re-teed

  2. PLAYING OUT OF TURN (Rule 10-1c)
    1. Teeing Ground - Opponent may recall stroke, at his option, if done immediately. No penalty, ball is re-teed
    2. Through the Green or in a Hazard - Opponent may recall stroke, at his option, if done immediately. No penalty, ball is dropped
    3. On Putting Green - Opponent may recall stroke, at his option, if done immediately. No penalty, ball is placed

  3. BALL IN MOTION DEFLECTED OR STOPPED
    1. By Players Side (Rule 19-2) - 1 Stroke Penalty (Exception: In Fourball Match Play only the player whose ball was in motion is disqualified from the hole. His partner incurs no penalty Rule 30-3f) By Opponents Side (Accidentally) (Rule 19-3) - No penalty. Player has option to replay the stroke immediately or play ball as it lies

  4. PLAYING WRONG BALL (Rule 15-3)
    • Playing a wrong ball (except in a Water hazard when that ball is moving) – loss of hole. Exceptions: In a Fourball Match Play the player is disqualified from hole - no effect on partner - Rule 30-3f

  5. BALL AT REST MOVED
    1. By Opponents Side (During Search) (Rule 18-3a) - No penalty. Player (owner) must replace the ball.
    2. By Opponents Side Other Than During Search (Excluding Opponents Ball) (Rule 18-3b) Opponent penalised 1 stroke. Owner must replace ball. (In Fourball Match Play the penalty only applies to the Opponent in breach of Rule. It does not apply to his partner (Rule 30-3f)
    3. By Another Ball (Rule 18-5) - No penalty. Owner must replace immediately. (This also applies on putting green)
    4. By Players Side (Rule 18-2) - The Player incurs a one stroke penalty and the ball is replaced

  6. BALL INTERFERING WITH OR ASSISTING PLAY (RULE 22)
    • Any player may have any ball lifted if he considers that it might interfere with his play or assist the play of any other player, but this may not be done while another ball is in motion

  7. CONCEDING OPPONENTS NEXT STROKE (RULE 2-4)
    • When the opponents ball is at rest, under Rule 16-2, or deemed to be at rest, the player may concede the opponent to have holed with his next stroke and the ball may be removed by either side with a club or otherwise.
      NOTE: When the ball is overhanging the hole a concession cannot be granted until the player has been allowed to walk to the hole without undue delay and an additional 10 seconds to determine the ball is at rest (Rule 16-2)

  8. ASSISTANCE IN MAKING STROKE (RULE 14-2)
    • While making the stroke the player shall not allow his caddie, his partner or his partner's caddie to position himself on or close to an extension of the line of play or the line of putt behind the ball

  9. UNAUTHORISED ATTENDANCE
    1. Unauthorised Attendance Or Removal By Opponents Side (Rule 17-2) Opponent loses hole (however, if player sees the flag being attended or removed and raises no objection he shall be deemed to have authorised it)
    2. Players Ball Striking Flag–Stick Or Attendant (Rule 17-3) Loss of hole except in the case of striking when playing from off the green (in Fourball Match Play penalty does not apply to partner)

  10. CLAIMS (RULE 2-5)
    • Claims must be made before any player tees off on the next hole or on the last hole of the match before all players leave the green.
